PA UT (PAUT): Radius area of the complex shaped composites and other materials

ISONIC RADIUS-Scan software application was created for the inspection of the inner radius areas of various cornered parts made of composites, metals, etc using Linear Array Probes equipped with specially designed wedges contoured according to the inner corner / radius surface

The movies below illustrate the inspection of the corner radius area in the bended carbon fiber (CFRP) profile and in the T-stringer with use of the ISONIC 3510 instrument

Initially developed for the inspection of the bended areas of the composite profiles the RADIUS-Scan inspection SW application is also suitable for the inspection of various metallic parts, for example, rotor shafts, castings, etc from the ID / bored surface. Use of VAUT (Video Aided Ultrasonic Testing) technology allows permanent visual monitoring of the bored / ID surface whilst scanning and recording of the video information along with the ultrasonic inspection data synchronously into the same inspection results fileThe movies below illustrate:

  • Distinguishing subsurface voids in the casted case of automotive engines before the machining

  • Checking the instrument's settings and operation on the performance demonstration block (PDB):

  • VAUT supported scanning of the hollow rotor shaft from the bored surface above the region of interest (ROI):

  • Postprocessing of the recorded data:
