PA UT (PAUT): Fillet / TKY Welds

ISONIC EXPERT FILLET software application was created for the inspection of fillet, Tee- , TKY- welds, and the like, with use of wedged linear array probes situated on the flange or web surface. It is also well suitable for the inspection of the pipe repair sleeve circumferential welds with the skewed-fillet-like cross section

The movie below illustrate in details the examples of Scan Plan creation for the Fillet / TKY welds followed by the inspection

The movies below illustrate inspection of fillet welds with use of the ISONIC 3510 instrument providing the ability of either

  • toggling between the True-to-Geometry (True-to-Shape) S-Scan and live FMC/TFM coverage and imaging at any moment whilst scanning
or
  • performing both coverage strategies at parallel along with recording and displaying the live images
The same ability is present in the ISONIC 2010 units manufactured after April 30, 2017 and ISONIC 2009 UPA Scope units manufactured after May 31, 2017:

Availability both complimentary coverage strategies such as True-To-Geometry S-Scan and live FMC/TFM in the same instrument at the same time further improves the versatility of use, the data interpretation, and the reliability of ultrasonic inspections

Some other illustrative videos are below

ISONIC EXPERT FILLET SW application initially created for the weld inspection, was found fully applicable to other tasks, for example – detection of fatigue cracks in the web-to-outboard end pad fillet radius at wing attach of an aircraft:

The videos below demonstrate the ability of ISONIC series PA instruments to generate TFM images for the defects in the fillet welds off-line out of earlier stored True-To-Geometry S-Scan data files; this is possible thanks to 100% raw data capturing when the primary A-Scans for each element of the receiving aperture are recorded for each implemented focal law:
